Creating An Affiliate Marketing Website: What I’ve learned

A lot of people are interested in starting an online business.

People are more inclined to create an affiliate marketing business because of the lack of limitations people have by building a website.

The problem people face by creating an affiliate marketing website is that there is a lot of data online.

Some people are not sure if they are starting on the right foot when they research how to do it.

I’ve been doing Affiliate Marketing for over five years now, and starting on the right foot is very important.

You can end up getting so overwhelmed because what you thought you wanted to start can begin to be a discouraging idea that you wanted in the first place.

The Beginning Of My Affiliate Marketing Journey

You are going to read a lot of great advice out there, but if you don’t have any knowledge in the field, what is getting told to you is like a foreign language.

What I knew about affiliate marketing back then were the basics.

You recommend products and services to people, and if they purchase something from your recommendations, you earn a commission.

Most affiliate networks or programs that have opportunities for you to join their affiliate network or program want you to have a website.

So for me, creating a website seem to be a positive way. Now that I knew that, I had to find out where can I get started creating a website.

At this point, my lack of knowledge about the whole Internet and website thing lead me to so much information that got me very discouraged.

At the time, YouTube was out there, but it wasn’t as informative as it is today.

YouTube Has A Lot Of Videos About How Easy It Is To Create A Website

Even though people explain what to do more simplistically, there are just so many website builders to choose from.

You’re going to see,

  • Wix
  • Squarespace
  • WordPress
  • Weebly
  • Shopify
  • GoDaddy Builder

Those listed above are just a few.

If you do not know the field, you might end up selecting a website builder you’re not happy with.

I’m not saying that these listed above are bad, and you should avoid them at all costs.

By all means, what those website builder offers does do the job.

What I’m saying is that you want to start with the best website builder where you’re not stuck.

Meaning, you don’t want a website builder where you can’t move from one hosting company to another.

You’re in business for yourself, and the content you created shouldn’t be held hostage at one particular service.

To give you more of an understanding of what is needed to have a viewable website online, you need three things.

  1. Domain name
  2. Hosting
  3. A website builder

Without all of these three things, your website will not get seen online.

A domain name is like the address of a home. By typing in the domain name, people can pull up your website.

Hosting is like the land or foundation for a website.

It is where all your data is stored.

Like your bed, your TV, and all the other stuff in your home.

You can even think of it as a store where all the products get shelved inside a store.

A website builder is like a home for your website; some might even say the design of your home.

My Advice On Which Website Builder You Should Choose

WordPress is the best, despite what you see on TV.

I don’t blame other website builder businesses for advertising on TV, or wherever they place ads, they are in business to advertise their services.

What I’m saying is that almost all hosting services out there support WordPress. That means you can move your website to whatever hosting service you want.

WordPress does take care of a lot of the SEO needs that you need to rank on the net.

A lot of people look online all the time on their phones and tablets, and WordPress is mobile friendly.

WordPress has thousands of themes you can choose from and change them even when you have hundreds of posts created without harming your rankings on the net.

WordPress offers thousands of plugins that you can use to help with your affiliate marketing business.

As you can see, as a business owner, you can adjust as your business grows.

If you don’t know this already, the majority of websites out there online use WordPress.

So What If I Take Your Advice And Go With WordPress! Now What?

Some of you may go back to YouTube and watch several videos showing you how to start your WordPress website.

That might be what I would have done back in the day; if I had the data that is out today.

Most YouTube tutorials will show you what to do, and they will recommend where to host and purchase your domain name.

That’s all good, and now you have a website.

You Make That Sound Like That Is A Problem

It’s not a problem. Free is free, and you get what you pay for.

The good news is that let’s say you selected a hosting company you’re not happy with or your contract is over, and you found a better deal. You can simply move your website to another hosting company.

It is not the end of the world if you want and prefers to learn from someone through YouTube.

The problem might run into is that,

  • you’re not getting the answers you want
  • Sometimes the data you get is outdated
  • spending way too much time searching online for the right answers
  • No one is responding to your concerns
  • you’re not ranking in the search engines
  • frustration is the result

The Internet changes quite rapidly, and what seemed to work one day may not work the next day. I’m not saying that will hurt you, you just have to make adjustments, and you must stay in the know.

Then What Should I Do?

I’m not going to tell you what to do. I’m going to give you my advice. What I did was get paid training- the reason why I went this route is that there is an overwhelming amount of data online.

If you’re willing to pay for training, don’t be surprised if everything and their mama will get thrown your way.

Not only that, what I know now and see what is out there, but some training courses are also charging people a lot of money for their training.

Some training courses are just outdated, and people should stay clear of.

When I found an actual training service that works and helps, I knew I was on the right path. It does take time and work, but if you’re not afraid to roll up your sleeves and earn while you learn, you can have an excellent start to an affiliate marketing business.

What Service Did You Learn How To Build An Affiliate Marketing Website?

The service is called Wealthy Affiliate.

In the video it shows you how to create an affiliate marketing website in under 30 seconds.

It started with ten free lessons that I was able to see for myself and implement what I learned because they give you two free websites and hosting so you can follow along with the lessons.

I was able to see what I was getting without ever entering a single digit of my credit card info.

I felt safe because there wasn’t anything to return if I decided the training isn’t for me.

Investments Are A Part Of Growing A Business

Every business starts in debt. The online world makes it so much more inexpensive to start and grow a business online.

People are doing that globally because people don’t have to go anywhere to start a business online.

You go to your home office or your bedroom and just do it.

The first debt you put in and what I put in is my time.

Those ten free lessons that I got, was to see what I was getting in return if I decided to pay for training.

The next debt I had was paying for the training. You think I wasn’t scared. I was scared shitless, even though I was pleased with what I was going to pay for.

I wasn’t concerned about getting scammed. What scared me the most is putting myself out there online. I took a plunge, and I thought, I’m going to do this. As time went on, it got easier.

What I invested in was $19 for the first month. Then I paid $47 a month for the training (note: it is now $49 a month).

I didn’t get just training, though. I got my website hosted with the monthly fee, keyword tool, and live weekly training that keeps me updated at no additional cost.

If you’re unfamiliar with Wealthy Affiliate hosting, it has changed a whole heck of a lot since I’ve joined. Their adjustments are for their users and don’t come with extra fees.

I suggest you read about What Wealthy Affiliate hosting provides.

It took me about six months to make my first dollar. Ever since I’ve managed to make money every month for over five years.

Some of the money I made, I reinvested back into my business.

My Advice To You If You Take The Training That I Did

Put in the time to see what you are going to get for their ten free lessons. Follow those lessons and implement what you learn.

Don’t just watch the videos read the content and more importantly, create the websites. It is free to do, and you’re learning something new.

Look at your finances. Do you have the money to invest? If not, it doesn’t hurt to think about how you would get the money to spend.

If your budget is tight, the last thing I want is for people to be in debt. Yearly is the best way to go because you have a whole year to concentrate on making a return on your investment.

You’re looking at $495 a year and around $15.00 a year for your domain name. That comes to about $31 a month.

For about ten months, I was paying $49 a month. Then I decided to go yearly because it just made sense.

I didn’t have to worry about another bill every month and concentrate on making more money.

I pay $299 a year because I paid for a Black Friday deal, and that is what I pay every year since.

Everyone’s situation is different. Some of you have the money. Some don’t. I’m not going to tell anyone to put themselves in debt.

You may want to consider alternative ways. I’ve written an article about that.

Now that you have your finance in order, now you have to invest your time. You will not get anywhere at Wealthy Affiliate if you do not spend your time.

Don’t pay for something you’re not going to do. You’re starting a business to make money. You can’t make any money without putting in the work. That is a sure-fire way not to make any money.

I’m telling you from my experience. It wasn’t easy investing my time for six months and not make one dollar.

You think I didn’t have any concerns! It was hard not to be in the know. It was hard trusting.

What kept me going was the little things that I accomplished.

  • Creating a website
  • Learning
  • Implementing what I learned
  • Seeing my content rank online was everything
  • People commenting on my website
  • People starting to purchase from my recommendations

It all started with 10 free lessons!
