Anyone with an entrepreneurial spirit probably wondered, how can I start my own business?
Thirty years ago, it was much more difficult and expensive.
A lot of entrepreneurs are moving towards the Internet to start their own online business.
I happen to be surfing the net and found this great story about 3 Harvard girls who started their online magazine called hercampus.com.
Their niche is about college life, more targeted towards the college experience.
This fantastic magazine has expanded to over 20 different colleges.
Growing is something you can do down the road.
Starting small and knowing every aspect of your business is smart business.
To get started building your own business is pretty simple. We all have the Internet, so why not use it to your advantage.
A domain name is the name of your business, hosting is where your business resides, and a website is like your storefront.
The Internet is like another world right at your fingertips.
Once you have all these key components together, you’re pretty much open for business.
Can I Make Millions Quickly?
I’m sorry to disappoint you, but it doesn’t really happen that way.
Just like any business, it does take time to build.
The first thing you have to understand about the Internet is that you have to start ranking in the search engines.
If you’re not ranking, most likely you will not gain any traffic to your site.
You do have to give your readers what they are looking for.
It can be hard to determine if you don’t have the tools you need.
What Other Tools Are You Talking About?
Basically, when you build a business online, the Internet, domain name, hosting, and the website is an empty store. If you don’t have anything to fill it up, you’re not going to make any money or get viewers to your site.
If people view a site with no content, they will just look for something else. Your content is what I call your inventory to your site. This is a very important aspect of building a proper business online. You’re going to have to write in order to gain viewers to your site.
You don’t want your content to be of low quality. It’s always best to pick a niche that you’re familiar with or something you have an interest in learning. This way you’re giving your readers value when they visit your site.
Another important tool you need is a good keyword tool. A keyword tool will give you information about what people are searching for online.
There are many keyword tools to choose from. The one I recommend is Jaaxy. I prefer using Jaaxy because it gives me accurate information. Jaaxy has been one of my secret weapons to ranking in the search engines.
How Much Is All This Going To Cost Me?
Unlike your typical store, it doesn’t cost thousands of dollars to get started online. Everyone has the Internet.
- A website you can get for free through WordPress.
- A domain name can run you an average of $10 a year.
- Hosting is a little tricky depending on your business. There are various hosting services out there. To give you an idea, hosting can run from $5 to $20 a month.
It’s very important to research hosting companies because some may have low-grade quality hosting that can slow down your site.
There are places that offer free hosting, but be careful with that because you may not have as much control with your business.
My site is hosted by a service called Wealthy Affiliate. I use them because they monitor my sites daily and I haven’t had a problem with viruses or getting hacked.
How To Be Successful Build A Business Online?
- Choosing a good niche
- Have a good keyword tool
- Quality content
- Monetizing your site
If you can do this you’re on your way to building a business from home.
The Luxury Of Building An Online Business
A great luxury about building a business from the Internet is that you can build a business anywhere there is an Internet connection. You also have the freedom to live wherever you choose.
As I stated before you don’t need thousands of dollars to do this. You can build a business and run with as little as $1000 a year. Some people’s monthly gas bill cost more than that.
The income possibilities can be endless. Unlike working at a job, most people get a set salary or hourly wages and that’s it.
Flexible hours is something that made me want to start a business online. I like the fact that I can work when my children are in school, while they are asleep, or even when they are awake or weekends and in my jammies.
The Tough Side Of Building A Business From Home
You have to be self-disciplined. Building a business online seems like a passive way of building a business. It’s not.
You gotta keep at it daily when you’re starting off. You don’t have to put as many hours into as you would a regular job, but if you don’t put the work into your business you’re just wasting your time and money.
Earning money. People tend to expect a rapid return on their investment because they feel it’s online. They think once they hit that publish button, the whole entire world sees their products or services and millions of dollars are in their account.
That is so no true. Don’t believe anyone who tells you differently. There are always exceptions to the rule, but commonly it doesn’t work that way.
Depending on what you plan to do with your site, if it’s your own products, promoting other products or whatever your niche may be, it starts off small.
You’re really building a business from the ground up, so it’s just going to take some time to earn revenue. It took me about a month to make my first $1.00 online. I knew if I can make a buck I can make 2 and so forth.
Another problem people face is that you may need help and sometimes it’s difficult finding help. If you’re not sure about something, people tend to go to YouTube or surf the net. Doing things this way can take hours to find the answer you need.
